Socket for a spacer
Update: It has been brought to my attention that this photo may need some clarification. The socket is in fact in the stanchion and was there when I pulled the top cap off. Apparently whoever did the last service had lost the compression spacer.

Bearings in need of love
If your suspension is loose. Stop and tighten it. Continuing to ride will only exasperate the issue.
